Local Arts, Culture and Sport Groups Get More than $180,000

MISSION – Arts, culture and sports organizations receive more than $184,600 in provincial Community Gaming Grants to support a variety of local programs.

“The Province continues to provide funding to groups that offer healthy and active programs to everyone in the community,” says Abbotsford-Mission MLA Randy Hawes.

“Providing active lifestyle options is important for everyone, particularly our youth, and that is exactly what these recipients do,” says Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton.

Recipients of Gaming Grants are as follows:

$47,000- Mission Minor Hockey Association
$35,000- Mission Folk Music Festival Society
$25,000- Mission District Historical Society
$18,000- Mission Minor Baseball Association
$17,600 Mission Minor Football Association
$17,000- Mission Figure Skating Club Society
$15,000 Mission Minor Lacrosse Club
$10,000- Clayburn Village Community Society

This round of funding will support 403 groups in Community Gaming Grants to support arts, culture and sports initiatives across B.C.  The remainder of eligible grant recipients for this sector will be notified by August 31st.

In total, the Province is allocating $120 million for gaming grants in 2010-2011, 7.4 million higher than the $112.6 million distributed last year. The grants will fund approximately 6,000 organizations that benefit communities, including those that assist public safety, youth and disabled sports, people in need, fairs, festivals, museums and community services such as preschools.
